2019 Boulder City Junior Golf Championship

Our 4th year of the RecruitLook Junior Golf Tour kicked off on January 26-27, 2019 for the Boulder City Junior Golf Championship. The weather was ideal for golf in Las Vegas, given it was only January; the temperatures for both days were in the mid 60’s! We had 49 players tee it up for the weekend — Day 1 at Boulder Creek and Day 2 at Boulder City. Boulder Creek proved to be the biggest challenge as it yielded only one sub-par round by any player, Ga Eun Song, girls 15-18, from South Korea with a 69. Boulder City Muni was a lot kinder to the boys on day two with 4 sub-par rounds.

Leading the charge in the Boys 15-18, Tyler Smerz won with rounds of 74-66/140. This makes two in a row counting his victory at the last event in 2018. Tyler came our firing on day two with one of his most consistent rounds ever, 33’s on both nines! He had the lead at the turn and never looked back as he poured it on. Tyler finished four ahead of second place finisher, Sean Zakin, who finished even par for the two days, 74-70/144. Last years player of the year, Jackson Parrish, came in third after making up for a difficult first round, 78-67/145. A bogey on the last hole cost him a tie for second place.

Boys 13-14 saw a newcomer to the tour, Emmanuel De La Cruz shoot 76-81/157 to finish four ahead of Troy Mason 84-77/161. Third went to Nolan Wilson, 88-75/163, who had the low round of the day in his age division on day two, a personal best 75!

Attila Sharipbeck, boys 11-12, won for the first time on the tour, 77-83/160 in a tightly packed group that included Bradley Bourn and Eli Marshall. Bradley shot 80-81/161, and Eli scored 78-83/161 also. Bradley won second in a scorecard payoff. Bourn was the player of the year last year, so Attila and Eli are already challenging him! It will be fun to see how Bourn can manage the season as defending champ and everyone gunning for him.

The girls 15-18 division was highlighted with two girls from South Korea joining the field. They did not disappoint as they finished first and second. Ga Eun Song shot 69 at Boulder Creek to post the only sub-par round at the Creek. Playing steady golf at Muni, she posted an even par 72 to finish 3 under at 141. Dajin Choe, also from South Korea shot 75-71/146 to take second. Third went to Annabelle Millard, St George, UT, with rounds of 74-76/150. The girls 15-18 is a good field that is competitive from top-to-bottom – the player of the year race will be wide open in this group.

New age division same results for Cienna Cabrera. Cienna was last year’s Player of of Year in the girls 11-12 and moved up to the 13-14 division this year. She picked up where she left off — opening with a victory in the girls 13-14 with rounds of 84-83/167.

Two more South Koreans joined us in the girls 11-12 and they finished first and third. Last years Player of the Year in the girls 9-10 Emmerson Hinds took second. Emmerson still had one more year in the girls 9-10 age group but decided to move up an age group for the longer distances and challenge. First place was Jabeen Han, 77-77/154, second was Emmerson Hinds 79-78/157, third went to Sieun Nam, 86-76/162.
