2018 Boulder Creek Junior Golf Championship

We’re always excited to go back to Boulder Creek because of how wonderful they treat all the kids – they have a first class staff. It also helps that the course is always in nice condition, and this year was no exception. The greens were fast and smooth, leading to some pretty low scores for the event.

The Boys 15-18 top five were some of the best we have had all year. Day one saw Seth Winterton leading for the first time at a RLJGT event. Seth’s first round was one of his best on the tour, he had 11 pars, 4 bogies, offset by 3 birdies to post the low round on day one with a 73. Close second was points leader Jackson Parrish with a 74, third was Jared Smith and Harrison Stanley with 75’s. Next was Blake Schaper with a 76. Only three shots separated these players leading to a shootout on day two.

After nine holes on day two, it really started to get tight. Blake came out gunning and scored a 34 on his front nine, Seth and Jared shot even par 36’s, and Jackson scored a 37. Blake was the first one in the club house and his stellar play was the low round of the day with a 68, two-day total of even par 144. Blake commented at the scoring table, the missed 10-footer on the last hole will probably keep him from winning outright. Seth was in the driver’s seat as he reached 3 under par for the round at the fourteenth hole. After shortening the 15th hole to a drivable par 4, Seth with his confidence high, made the decision to go for the green. He missed the fairway to the right side which lead to a double bogey. He recovered nicely and pared the next two holes. Eighteen was not kind, he scored another double bogey to finish at 73-73/146, one shot back of the leader. Jackson posted a 70 to force the playoff with Bake (74-70/144)

It took five extra holes to get a winner in the playoff. The first playoff hole tied with two pars. On hole two, Jackson drained a 12-foot par saving putt to send the play off to a third hole. After they each pared the third hole, they went to the fourth hole, a par five. Jackson reached the green in two and was 15 feet away for his eagle. Blake was in the green-side bunker in two and desperately needed to get it up and down but blasted out thirty feet past the pin. He then went on to make the 30-foot birdie putt while Parrish just missed his eagle putt sending the playoff to the fifth and deciding hole which Jackson won with a par. Nobody really lost this match but Parrish outlasted Schaper for the win. With his win, Jackson leads the Player of the Year race with 2,550 points. That was exciting…now exhale!

Stop us if you’ve heard this before… Bradley Bourn won on the RLJGT. Bourn has now for the 7th time out of 8 starts in the boys 11-12. With rounds of 74-80/154, Bradley finished three ahead of hard charging Skylor Taylor 83-74/157. This victory by Bourn ties him on the All-Time single season win list with Yana Wilson in 2016. Yana won 7 events that year. Bourn can set the single season record with a win at the Tour Championship.

Eli Marshall recovered nicely from a pulled groin muscle he suffered at soccer and blew away the field in the boys 9-10. Eli scored 72-74/146, Nathan Putala was a distant second with 82-79/161. Points leader Lee Howland shot 86-85/171 for third place. This extends Eli’s win streak to 6 events in a row!

Yana Wilson, girls 15-18, has won her third straight with her best two-day total score for the year, 73-74/147, not bad for a 12-year-old. This win puts Yana in contention to win the 15-18 overall Player of the Year if she can win the Tour Championship. Second went to Crystal Querol, recent signee with Colorado Mesa University, with a 77-80/157. Carolyn Lemon, points leader, had a tough first day but improved by 13 shots on day two, 92-79/173 to take third place. It’s great to see Lemon face some adversity and bounce back to shoot a low score on day two. That is the sign of a really good golfer! Newcomer Katelyn Smith shot 88-85/173 to finish fourth. We’re expecting Katelyn to be competing for titles the next couple of years.

Zoe Parker, girls 11-12, took top honors with rounds of 81-71/152. The 71 was one of her best rounds ever for 18 holes. Zoe really got dialed in midway through her round – shooting 4-under on holes 8 through 13. This helped secure the victory for Zoe. Second place was points leader Cienna Cabrera with 87-85/172. Cienna leads the Player of the Year race with 3,050 points.

It was just another day at the office for Emmerson Hinds in the Girls 9-10 division. Emmerson won her third straight event, shooting 38-35/73. She also leads the Player of the Year race with 2,375 points. Second place went to Rivers Abigail Common with 46-45/91.

Our next event is scheduled for December 15-16, 2018 at Reflection Bay for the season ending Tour Championship. This will be a major event, so all points will double! This event is limited to the first 36 sign ups. Register Here.
