Recapping the College Prep JR Golf Championship

TPC Las Vegas / Cascata
June 17-18-19, 2019

This season players have been battle tested by the weather elements; however we finally got our break and were rewarded for nice weather at our College Prep Championship held over three days on June 17-19, 2019. The temperatures never exceeded 100 degrees for any of the days, which is unusual for Las Vegas in the summer. The College Prep Championship was held at TPC Las Vegas for the first 2 days and at Cascata for the final day. The players could not have played two finer facilities to test themselves — both courses are proven to challenge players.

It was a great event hosted by two beautiful facilities. We thank TPC Las Vegas and Cascata for all they do for Junior Golf! And we greatly appreciate the buffet provided to the players at Cascata.

Parrish prevails in a crowded tournament field!

The Boys 15-18 had our tightest finish of the year with only one shot separating the top three.  Jackson Parrish played consistent over the three days to finish with 74-71-78/223. With his victory, Jackson has taken over first place in the Player of the Year standings with 1,268.75 points. Only one-shot back was Kameron Kelsey 76-69-79/223 and Noah MacFawn 75-70-79/224.  Kameron finished second in a scorecard playoff with Noah, and Kameron also had the low round of the event on day two at TPC Las Vegas with a nice 2-under par 69. Jared Smith scored the most birdies in a round with 6 on his scorecard at TPC Las Vegas on day 2.

Kyle Guloy outlasts the competition!

The boys 13-14 was also close as Kyle Guloy won for the first time this year.  Day three beat up all the players in this age group as the lowest score at Cascata was 92, whereas the scores at TPC were all in the 70’s & 80’s first two days. After two rounds at TPC, we had a three-way-tie for first with Kyle Guloy, Colin Wesolek, and Nolan Wilson.  They made the turn with Colin leading by one over Kyle and Nolan. However, Kyle prevailed on the back nine, scored 80-81-92/253. Close second was Colin Wesolek, 82-79-94/255, and third to Nolan Wilson, 80-81-95/256.  With his victory, Kyle leads the boys 13-14 in the Player of the Year race with 1,525 points over Nolan Wilson 1,250.

Bradley Bourn was dialed in!

Boys 11-12 winner Bradley Bourn turned in one of his best performance for the year so far.  He played TPC Las Vegas at 71-72, one over par for the 36 holes.  His 77 on day three at Cascata, the low round of the day by any player, gave him a three-day total of 220, nineteen shots ahead of second place.  Eli Marshall, only ten years old playing in this age division had three really good rounds.  He scored 80-80-79/239 to finish second.   Attila  Sharipbeck finished third with 76-83-92/251. Bradley leads the Player of the Year race with 1800 points to Eli’s 1,500.

Marshall’s winning streak continues!

Charlie Marshall, Eli’s brother, has made it three in a row winning the boys 9-10 with rounds of 84-77-82/243.  Just as impressive, this age group played all three rounds instead of their usual 18 holes only.  Second went to Taco Chaison-Nivatvongs with rounds of 97-91-101/289.  Big cheers for Taco who is only eight years old.

Lemon, Parker and Common all win their first event of the season!

The girl’s division was light in every age group, I’m sure this is due to the extensive schedule they all play during the summer all over the country. All three winners are first time winners this season. The Girls 15-18 winner was Carolyn Lemon, rounds of 86-90-82/258. Lemon has steadily improved all season long, and this was her first event recording a round in the 70s. We’re looking forward to seeing her continued growth as a competitive golfer.  The Girls 13-14 winner was Zoe Parker, 76-78-83/237. Parker is playing some really solid golf this year, and she did a great job bouncing back after difficult holes. At Cascata, Parker pared each hole following a double or triple bogey.  Girls 11-12 winner was Rivers Abigail Common with 83-76-93/252.  Common was quite impressive on day 2 at TPC Las Vegas shooting 5-over par with an even 35 on the back 9. Way to go to all of the girl’s winners.

Our next event is scheduled for July 2-3, 2019 at Anthem Country Club.  One of the better course layouts in the valley. Register here.
