Pahrump Junior Championship Event Recap

Mountain Falls Golf Club hosted the Inaugural RecruitLook Junior Golf Tour’s opening event to kick off the 2016 season. The first event on a 15-event tour would test the golfers’ ability to play in inclement weather. Low temperatures and strong winds were present for both Saturday and Sunday, but all the players came prepared to fire low scores.

DSC09222After day 1, Cameron Barzekoff led the boys 15-18 with a solid 76. Coming in a close second was Ethan Bozer with a 77, and Jett Isoda followed behind with a 78. Both days Cameron had trouble with the front nine, carding a 40 each day. He would regain his focus on the back nine, shooting even par on both days. While Barzekoff preferred the back nine, you could say just the opposite of the other two top finishers (in the boys 15-18), who struggled on the back nine each day but were better on the front nine. With another 76 on day 2, for a 152 total, Barzekoff edged Ethan Bozner who scored 77 both days for a 154, and Jett finished third with a 79 on day 2, for a 157 total.

DSC09224The Boys 13-14 division was won by Jody Paulsen, 94-78/172 total, an incredible 16 shot improvement from his opening round! Paulsen’s 78 scorecard on day two was a personal best to date. Second place went to William Moser, who also improved considerably with 99-89/188, a 10 shot improvement from day 1. Tyler Pham finished 3rd with rounds of 97-93/190.

Dominating the Boys 11-12 division was Mason Snyder. Snyder was impressive both rounds with his long and short game, which resulted in scores of 83-77/160.

DSC09227The girls 13-18 division were probably impacted the most by the weather. The course played longer with the strong winds made the course play longer. It seemed each time the girls were to tee off, the wind was hollowing right in their face. Golf is unpredictable – this first event definitely was a test of their mental toughness. Each girl persevered and finished both days strong. Rebecca Oertel finished in first with rounds of 81-88/169. Consistency all tournament long is what propelled Oertel to the top of the leaderboard.

Yana Wilson dominated the girls 9-10 with a 92-87/179 total. Wilson didn’t seem to mind the weather, or maybe she just loves the game of golf, as she sported a smile the entire time. Coming in second was Brooklyn Millard, who traveled from California to compete on our tour. She scored 105-103/208.

All of the golfers commented on their fun experience on the RecruitLook Junior Golf Tour. They really liked their first tee gift — a sleeve of Titleist balls. Each golfer was also fed a box lunch both days. Apparently, the chocolate chip cookies were a big hit!

We look forward to seeing many of you at our next event, scheduled for February 27-28, 2016 at Las Vegas Municipal Golf Club.
