Recapping the final event before the RecruitLook Junior Tour Championship

The RecruitLook Junior Golf Tour had its last event before the Tour Championship this past weekend at Boulder Creek. The final regular season event in 2016 proved to be a challenge; Boulder Creek once again lived up to its reputation as one of the more difficult tracks in the valley.

At the end of day 1, Arpepanya Phonsavanh scored one of his best rounds on the tour so far (75) good enough for a 3-stroke advantage over point’s leader Austen Ancell (78). Phonsavanh had a rough start on day 2 and opened with an 8. That’s all the opportunity Ancell needed as he played steady golf on day 2 to cruise to an 8 shot victory with rounds of 78-74/152. Phonsavanh recovered from a difficult front 9 to secure 2nd with a 75-85/160 performance. Blake Woodie finished 3rd with 81-82/163, one of his best finishes on the tour.

Kameron Kelsey, won his 5th event of the year and has taken over the points lead with only the Tour Championship left on the schedule. Kelsey again played steady golf with rounds of 78-77/155. Kelsey had a rough start on day one and found himself 7 over par after six holes. From hole seven on, he played one under par and after round one found himself in 2nd place to first round leader Jackson Parrish (77). Kelsey again struggled on the front nine on day two, but was able to pull into a tie for the lead with Jackson with nine holes to play. Kelsey secured his victory with a nice even par 36 for a 7 shot victory. There was a three way tie for second, a scorecard playoff was used to break the ties. Jacob Johnson (86-76/162) was 2nd, and William Moser was 3rd (86-76/162). Jackson Parrish finished 4th (77-85/162). Heading into the Tour Championship, Kelsey has 2,325 points to Moser’s 2,158.33.

The Boys 11-12 winner was Dylan Girouard with rounds of 88-97/185. Girouard will head into the Tour Championship as the overall points leader for his age group.

The Boys 9-10 had quite the excitement as Shenlone Wu and Kyle Guloy battled it out. On the front 9, Guloy turned in 43 for a 5 shot advantage over Shenlone Wu. Guloy played steady on the back nine, but Shenlone poured it on with a superb 3 over par 39 to finish with an 87 to Guloy’s 89.

Bella Gopwani (2nd in overall points for her age group) ran away from the field in the girls 13-14 with a 90-84/174 total.

Carson Murphy ran away with the girls 11-12 division with rounds of 104-85/189. Carson’s round 2 was a 19 shot improvement! Carson will enter the Tour Championship as the overall points leader for her age group.

The Tour Championship is the last event for 2016. It’s scheduled for December 20-21, 2016 at the iconic Reflection Bay Golf Club. Due to the difficult walking conditions at this facility, we will allow riding for all age groups. So please join us for the last event of 2016.
