Summerlin Junior Championship
The RecruitLook Junior Golf Tour hosted its first ever three-day tournament on June 12-14, 2017. The first 36 holes were at TPC Las Vegas, followed by the final 18-holes at Cascata Golf Club. Overall — it was a huge success. We greatly appreciate the support of both golf courses to host our junior tour.
The junior golfers really enjoyed the opportunity to play for three days, and loved the opportunity to be able to play at Cascata – one of the most exclusive courses in the area. The views at Cascata are absolutely stunning, and the way they were able to carve out a course between all the mountains is spectacular. The best quote we heard all day was “did you know there is a river running through the clubhouse”. Famous for their water feature running through the clubhouse, it is nothing short of amazing to see.
Austen Ancell, last years player of the year and signed to play for Regis University, won again for his first victory of 2017. Austen opened with a solid 2 over par 73, followed by another steady round on day two, with a 74. With an eight shot lead after two days, Austen maybe felt a little too comfortable, and struggled on the front nine at Cascata. He settled down on the back nine, shot a 79, and won by ten shots over newcomer to our tour Skyler Ngo, and 15-18 boys point’s leader, Kevin Inthachack. With his runner up finish, Inthachack is steadily separating himself from the other players with a more than double lead over the next player in the player of the year race.
Jackson Parrish, boy’s 13-14 winner, has been on a hot streak as of late. He recently won a junior world qualifier and showed no signs of letting up with rounds of 78-72-72/222. Another newcomer to the RecruitLook Junior Golf Tour, Dakota Gillman, who plays out of Ft. Mohave, AZ took second place with a 228 total. Dakota was leading after day one, but could not hold his lead to Jackson’s strong play over the last 36 holes.
Kyle Guloy took first in the boys 11-12, and now holds a commanding lead in the player of the year race. Guloy improved every round during the tournament, shooting: 84-82-77. Shenlone Wu won the boys 9-10, and with his victory moved within striking distance of point’s leader Alex Lac.
The girl’s 15-18 winner, McKenzi Hall, with an even par 216 total, posted the best score for the 54-hole tournament. McKenzi scored rounds of 72-74-70. Her 70 was the low round of the tournament and best round at Cascata. This was McKenzi’s second career tour victory on the RLJGT. Rebecca Oertel came in second place and continues to lead this age division in the player of the year race.
Carolyn Lemon won the girls 13-14 with rounds of 87-81-82/250. Playing consistent golf all year, Carolyn has finished 3rd or better in every event so far for the year. Tricia Capps came in second place at the Summerlin Junior Championship. The girls 13-14 division is going back-and-forth with Capps and Lemon. Lemon’s victory this week jumps her into first place overall.
Natalie Cheong won the girls 11-12 in a tighter finish than the final scores show. Leading after day one with an 86 to Mizara Norton’s 88, Mizara took the lead after day two with a 82 to Natalie’s 85. After nine holes at Cascata on day three, the girls were tied. Natalie came on strong on the last nine to win by six.
Yana Wilson’s win streak is still intact as she won again in the girls 9-10. With a 75 at TPC and a 74 at Cascata, Yana won her fourth straight for the 2017 season, and 11 in a row if you add in the 2016 season, amazing dominance by such a young player. Brynn Kort took second with rounds of 80 at TPC and 75 at Cascata. More amazing is Brynn is only 8 years old. If not for a bad three hole stretch on day one, Brynn scored bogey, double bogey, triple bogey on holes 10-12 at TPC, she might have been able to break Yana’s win streak. Those six strokes were the difference between her and Yana. For the year Brynn has finished second in all her events.

Our next big event is July 5-6, at Reflection Bay. It will be a fun event with a two-person team event on day one, and a college combine (skills challenge) format on day 2. All of this followed by a family BBQ and fun day at the Reflection Bay Athletic Club. Check out the website for all the details.
