RecruitLook Junior Golf Tour Event 9 Recap

The latest event on the RecruitLook Junior Golf Tour was held at Eagle Crest on October 21-22 for the RecruitLook Executive Course Championship. The Golf Gods greeted us with near perfect weather – temperatures were comfortably in the mid-70s with very little wind. The ideal playing conditions were welcomed by all, which makes for a fun weekend of golf.

For all those who thought executive golf is a pushover – round 1 went to Eagle Crest. The low round of the day went to newcomer Bradley Bourn in the boys 10-11 with a 6 over par 66. Course setup on day 2 for the par 3’s was more favorable for the players, and it showed overall on the players’ scorecard.

Brynn Kort in the girls 9-10 from Kingman, AZ shot an even par 60, the low round on day 2. Brynn had the ‘hole of the day’ with an Eagle on a par 4! Brynn played exceptionally well in a competitive field, fighting off 7 other girls that all had good rounds. Brynn finished 3 ahead of Huang sisters, Angelina with a 63, and Cameron with a 68. Points leader, Yueshi Lu, finished 5th overall and reminds in 1st on the overall leaderboard with 2 events left.

Natalie Cheong is making a case for the overall Player of the Year on the RecruitLook Junior Golf Tour. Cheong’s 73-70/143 was good for another tour victory, her 5th in 2017! Runner-up for the 3rd time this year was Mizara Norton with 85-74/159.

The girls 13-14 winner, Carolyn Lemon, improved 13 shots from round 1 to round 2 in order to over-take Bella Gopwani. Starting 4 shots behind, Carolyn pulled to even with Bella with nine to play. Carolyn finished with a 64 on day 2 (77-64/141) to Bella’s 75 (73-75/148) to win by seven. With her win, Carolyn increased her season point’s lead to 225 points with two events remaining. They both said they plan on playing the last two events; this should be a shootout for the tour championship.

Leo Torres, boys 15-18, played consistent over the two days with rounds of 68-63/131, to finish well ahead of Xavier De La Rosa 79-72/151. This was Leo’s first career RLJGT victory, and it now puts him in striking distance of the overall point’s leader, Kevin Inthachack.

CJ Martin, boys 13-14, won his fourth event of the year, with rounds of 79-67/146. Nice 12 shot improvement on day two. CJ leads his age division on the overall leaderboard with 2,200 points, slightly in front of Jackson Parrish at 1,800.

Bradley Bourn won the boy’s 11-12 age division with rounds of 66-64/130 to finish 8 ahead of Preston Heward (73-65/138) from St. George, Utah. Vincent Kyle Forbes is leading the point’s race in this age division with 1,500 points; Kyle Guloy is second with 1,350.

In the boys 9-10 division, Nathan Putala edged out overall point’s leader Shenlone Wu by 3 strokes. Putala showed poise down the stretch on the final 4 holes as Wu was closing in – Putala finished with 4 straight pars to take the victory. Ethan Long came in the 3rd with 37-33/70.

With two events remaining, the Player of the Year point’s race is heating up. All points will double for the final event…the Tour Championship. It’ll be important for all golfers to get out to our last 2 events to make a run at the Tour Championship! We hope to see you out on the links!

Thanks again to all the participants at this weekend’s event; we hope you enjoyed playing Eagle Crest, a tough executive course.
